GREG TRICKER EXHIBITION 'PILLARS OF FAITH' - AT SALISBURY CATHEDRAL
4 October - 4 November 2012
The artist Greg Tricker brings his exhibition Pillars of Faith to Salisbury Cathedral from Thursday 4 October until Sunday 4 November. Based on the theme of Saints, who are the ‘pillars of faith’, the exhibition of over twenty pieces of contemporary religious art is a mix of 2D and 3D artworks with stained glass, wood and stone sculptures, wood carvings and paintings.
The Saints represented are St Joan, Mary the mother of Christ, Mary Magdalene, Christ himself, St Francis, St Joseph, St Bernadette, St Clare and St John. This exhibition includes a collection of significant and large new pieces on the theme of St Joan d’Arc created specifically for this Cathedral setting.
Greg Tricker’s profound and simple style of painting is deeply rooted in a mystical tradition of art. Qualities of myth, an innocence of spirit akin to the folk art tradition and a powerful theatrical element are the key features and influences in his work.
Exhibition Curator Jacquiline Creswell says “Greg Tricker’s work is very effective in a sacred space and the juxtaposition of his passionate religious art in this beautiful medieval cathedral setting will be extraordinarily powerful.”
