SALISBURY VESPERS A HUGE SUCCESSIssued Thursday 28th May 2009
The Salisbury Festival concert on Saturday 23 May involved hundreds of singers, a huge orchestra and children's choirs joined together to perform Salisbury Vespers. Showcasing Bob Chilcott's exceptional talent for large-scale choral writing, Salisbury Vespers pays homage to this most ancient of devotional services, combining settings of the traditional Vespers psalms with anonymous early texts and words from Sarum Primer of 1516.
Some of the comments from those who attended included "a wonderful sense of community spirit as well as a sense of spirituality", "the choirs sang supremely well and was an unforgettable occasion", "a triumph beyond measure", when will we hear it again?, "local people working together on something so very worthwhile" "so skillful of Bob Chilcott to write this"
