Map of the Close
Harnham Gate
The house inside and on the south side of the Harnham Gate was constructed by John Talman (1708-1765), a Vicar Choral who spent much money in speculative building. Another of his houses in a much grander style is to be seen on the east side of Choristers` Green at the High Street junction with the North Walk. This gate in common with the others is closed overnight. Walking westward from the Harnham Gate across the Wrack close or playing fields, one comes to the West Walk with its imposing houses.
