Works Department
The Department proudly believes that it was originally founded to build the Cathedral in 1220 and that is has probably existed in some form or other for over 750 years. It has retained all the skills employed over the centuries and specialises in masonry, carving and conservation.
The traditional methods handed down over centuries are still employed by fully trained and skilled craftsmen and women and, where necessary, mechanisation has been utilised to complement these skills.
The Cathedral currently employs 10 masons (and operates it own apprentice scheme) and 3 conservators.
